Conhecida por seu espantoso crescimento econômico, extensão territorial e grande número de habitantes, a China quer dar um upgrade na sua bovinocultura. Em busca de conhecimento e troca de experiência, os chineses convidaram pesquisadores brasileiros para conhecer o “Yak” (Bos grunniens), raça originária do Tibete. A visita aconteceu durane um evento Xining, província de Quinghai.

Rústico e adaptado, o Yak é criado em altas altitudes (2.500 m a 6.000 m) e tem grande importância econômica e social, pois fornece alimento para milhares de famílias que se dedicam ao pastoreio nos grandes planaltos chineses.

Segundo explicou Cláudia Sampaio, professora da Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV), em artigo escrito exclusivamente para DBO, o objetivo dos pesquisadores chineses é melhorar a eficiência produtiva do Yak doméstico (puro e cruzados), estabelecendo um sistema próprio de exigências nutricionais e um padrão de qualidade para a carne da raça.
